Augmented by multiinstrumentalist Dave Sitek and guitarist Kyp Malone, Adebimpes soaring, malleable vocals draw on Enoesque soundscapes as much as American indie rock, with dashes of Fifties street-corner doo-wop thrown in. Their debut album, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes, was lo-fi and pretty hardcore, but soon attracted them big-name fans. David Bowie declared TV on the Radio his favourite new act, and his voice is buried with honours among the backing vocals of their second album, the superb Return to Cookie Mountain. Their gig at Koko is the last of a three-city dash through the UK before a short European tour. The original trio of Adebimpe, Sitek and Malone is augmented by bassist Jaleel Bunton and drummer Gerard Smith, and the crowd greet them like conquering heroes. Drawing on their latest album, this is an exhilarating show of heavy rock and heavy beats, mixed with electronic feedback, choreographed into a stream of consciousness. Between Afro-haired Malone and Adebimpe, they work up some good, ragged harmony vocals, and the epic choruses struggle out of their New York street clothes on songs like “Wolf Like Me”. “I Was a Lover”, the albums opener, is a stand-out track live, a great combination of drones, drums and bass, with strong vocals to match. The song lyrics are vivid, visceral, and weird in an out-of-joint way. Towards the end, the band are joined by a rag-tag of guests banging on hand percussion, while Tunde experiments with the public- address tones of a load-hailer. The sound of sirens soon follows, vocals veering between hip-hop rhythms and grungy howls, while abstract guitar pulses with the electronic backdrop of drones and alarms. It could easily be a case of too much going on in one place at once, but it works.

Monday May 5, 2003 will go down in history as a day to remember in employment law. It was the day the long-debated amendments to the Health Safety in Employment Act finally came into effect. Why is this new legislation so important? The term “workplace stress” took on a whole new significance, with new obligations for employers, and potentially serious financial consequences for those who ignore them. Workplace stress is no longer simply a sad fact of life. It is now an officially recognised and legislated “workplace hazard”, with the amendments extending the definitions of “harm” and “hazard” to include physical and mental harm caused by work-related stress. A cursory reading of the new legislation might be enough to instantly treble employers workplace stress, but a deeper understanding goes some way to restoring mental equilibrium. The Occupational Safety and Health booklet, Healthy work, Managing Stress in the Workplace, tells employers that “there is only a requirement to manage work stressors or the individuals stressed situation where you can be reasonably expected to know about the stress. Even then the obligation is only to do what is reasonably practicable in the circumstances.”

ADVERTISING MEDIAAUDIORadio stations feature many different programming emphases. These range from music-oriented formats such as country, adult contemporary, classic rock, and alternative rock to news-or talk-oriented formats. Since these different formats attract different demographic segments of the total audience, business owners can take appreciable measures to reach their target audience simply by buying time on appropriate stations. Another major advantage of radio advertising is that it is inexpensive to place and to produce, allowing small business owners to place advertisements on more than one station in a given market. In addition, radio advertising content can be changed quickly to meet changes in the market or to reflect new business objectives. Finally, radio reaches large numbers of commuters, income-generating people who often pay more attention to radio advertising than to other advertising media, especially if they are driving alone.

Consumers rank quality of workmanship higher than cost when it comes to their expectations regarding home remodeling projects. Results of a survey released last week by the National Association of Remodeling Industry showed that do-it-yourselfers would take on minor projects around the house themselves, but when it came to more intensive or demanding projects, they want to hire professionals to insure the appearance and value of their homes. According to the survey, 95 percent of homeowners questioned said that quality was a very important factor when it came to their home remodeling jobs, while only 60 percent listed cost as a very important factor. When asked to select the most important of these two factors, 56 percent said they were equally important, 41 percent said quality is the most important issue, and only 2 percent chose price as the top concern when it came to home improvements. The strong majority said they would not sacrifice workmanship or materials for budget. Homeowners approached with this survey said they consider professional remodeling contractors to be a valuable resource for jobs ranging from replacing a sink to adding an extra room. The NARI survey revealed that 72 percent of remodeling projects cost less than $10,000 and 49 percent cost less than $5,000. Only 9 percent of home remodeling projects exceed $30,000 in costs.

Air Travelers Tech Perspective If you count yourself among the ranks that racks up more frequent flyer miles than you know what to do with, chances are youre anxiously waiting for the day that reasonably priced, always-on Internet connectivity becomes a reality — both on the ground and in the air. Weve asked a leading expert on travel and air transport to help us provide perspective on the present and future outlook for airport and in-flight technology. Here are highlights of our conversation with Aram Gesar, Editor of AirGuide Magazine and AirGuideOnline. Unless business takes you to small markets or youre a member of an airline airport club, youre probably still in search of Wi-Fi nirvana. Large airports have been slow to establish wireless networks because of their size, but smaller airports are offering free Wi-Fi to attract business travelers, says Aram Gesar. Check out Wififreespot.com for a list of all the airports offering free wireless access. At the larger airports there are often a variety day pass and one-time use options available ranging from $5 to $15. Aram suggests Wi-fihotspotlist.com to locate hotspots in major metro areas. Looking to the future, Gesar says, we can expect to see technology in airports to mirror what frequent flyers use at the office and home, but this will be a slow evolution based on customer feedback and demand.

Portable Basketball Goal

As portable basketball backstops have become commonplace at all of the pro arenas and a vast majority of college venues, its really no surprise that high schools across the country are opting for a similar main court feel. Plus, portable backstops give schools the flexibility to move the apparatus around and place it in different locations within the confines of a gym. We have seen a boom with portable backstops in the high school market, says Kevin Murphy, Vice President of Sports Construction and Team Sports for American Athletic, Inc. (AAI). So much so that weve centered some of our product development around the boom. Ten years ago, when I started with the company, we rarely sold a portable backstop to a high school. If we did, it was just as a shooting station for practice. Those high schools were built with ceiling-suspended backstops, one on each end for the main court and two on each sideline for practices.

Limo Service Dallas TX

Daimler-Benz yesterday decided not to let its German rivals leave it in the dust in super-luxury cars, approving plans to go ahead with production of a limousine to compete with Rolls-Royce. As Volkswagen and BMW reached a settlement on taking over Rolls brands, Daimlers management board gave the go-ahead for production of the Maybach, which it has previewed at auto shows for the past year. “With the positive decision for the production of the Mercedes- Benz Maybach, we are underscoring once more our claim to represent the absolute top in every market segment,” said Daimler chief executive Mr Jurgen Schrempp.
Limousine has diverse meanings, from an inhabitant of the region around Limoges, once called Limousin, and which in the 18th century was looked at askance as home to “an old barbarous French, formerly brought into this country out of France”. The OED overlooks the limousine which was a cloak worn by the driver of a cart whose passenger section was shielded from the elements - hence the vehicle itself and all those gaudy, dark- windowed successors which could house nine cows.

Inventory Asset Management Leader Champions Education for Girls and Boys in Sub-Saharan Africa Two years ago on a trip to Africa, Patrick OSullivan, a retired technology executive and the founder of Build African Schools, was overwhelmed when he learned it took three years for a Maasai village to build itself a primary school for the tribes boys and girls. OSullivan had the vision to partner with corporations and individuals to directly impact the lives and futures of thousands of Maasai children. By privately funding the building of primary schools, education would be expanded to new communities with the provision that the new schools would be accessible not only to boys, but to girls, as well. From this vision, Build African Schools was born. FreeFlow is recognized for the business services and solutions they provide to manufacturers which improve their customers product lifecycle profitability through the continuous identification and disposition of at-risk and inventory. FreeFlow is committed to Build African Schools and is fully funding the completion of one primary school with five classrooms and solar power for electricity in a Massai village. When the doors open in May, young girls and boys will immediately fill all of the new 200 desks. Students, who have previously walked miles and miles to schools in distant villages, will now have access to classrooms within their community. Once the school is complete, it is donated directly to the tribal community and the Kenyan government formally joins the partnership. The governments role will be to provide teachers for each school, with the community joining in to provide ongoing maintenance of the building facilities.
Hypnosis Fort Worth
August 20th, 2008
Self Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis. In hypnotherapy, hypnosis is used by psychotherapists to modify a patients behavior. According to the American Association of Professional Hypnotherapists, there is a 75-90% chance of effectively changing behavior with hypnotherapy. Once the patient has seen a hypnotherapist, self-hypnosis can be learned, and is sometimes recommended as part of the treatment plan. Self-hypnosis involves a patient using relaxation techniques and specific signals to clear his mind of extraneous thoughts and sensations.
Preparation
Hypnotherapy requires only that the patient desire to change a certain type of behavior. The hypnotherapist usually prepares for the sessions by asking the subject to stare at an object, suggesting, in a soothing voice, that the eyelids are becoming heavy, that the subject relax, and that he is becoming hypnotized. Then, the hypnotherapist conveys to the subject that it will be effortless to follow the hypnotherapists suggestions
Aftercare
Coming out of the hypnotic state is as simple as entering it. Waking from the hypnotic state slowly is preferable for optimal results. After hypnosis, subjects report changes in bodily sensations and describe an awareness of having gone into an altered state of mind.
Risks
Because hypnosis can sometimes completely remove or distract people from feeling pain, it is important that a doctor, or other appropriate medical specialist, assess the underlying medical or psychological condition. This assessment is important because, when using hypnosis to reduce pain or other physical symptoms, the pain may be alerting the patient to a problem that needs some other form of medical or psychological treatment. As an example, a brain tumor might be causing chronic headaches, and require immediate treatment.
Normal results
Family doctors have begun using hypnosis to treat psychosomatic illness, control appetite, and reduce the need for medication. Because of the utility of using hypnosis to reduce the sensation of pain, it can make it possible for physicians to lower dosages of pain medication in cases of chronic illness. Because hypnosis is actually an intense state of concentration, physicians have now accepted the fact that patients can regulate their own heart rate, circulation, temperature, muscle tension, and other body functions, if necessary.
Abnormal results
Hypnotherapy requires that the patient desire to change a certain type of behavior. Success is greater the more committed the subject is to change. If the patient is reluctant, hypnotherapy may be unsuccessful.
Key Terms
- Anesthesia
- The absence of normal sensation, especially sensitivity to pain as induced by an anesthetic substance, or by hypnosis. May be induced for medical or surgical purposes topically, locally, regionally, or generally.
- Hypnotherapist
- A professional who uses hypnosis as an adjunct to other techniques in psychotherapy
Hypnosis, a medium or modality through which you may become more alert to your own thoughts and feelings, can be appropriate for a number of health conditions, especially ones with emotional or psychological components. While the success rate varies, many health care professionals recommend considering hypnosis for the following: Asthma: Studies suggest that hypnosis may be one effective treatment for asthma, especially when there are emotional and psychological factors involved. Childbirth: Hypnosis can help ease the stress and pain of childbirth. The ASCH estimates that for some women, hypnosis can work as the sole analgesic for childbirth. It not only eliminates the risk posed by drugs, but it may reduce labor time by two to four hours. (It can be used in conjunction with natural childbirth approaches.)
internet business training
August 19th, 2008
Not a day goes by without yet another article extolling the virtues of the Internet. An estimated 30 million worldwide users to date and more logging on every day. To the small business owner, the real question is, Where does the hype end and the reality begin? Is the Internet really a viable proposition for the traditional small business, normally constrained by lack of time, staff and money? 10 questions to ask yourself The best way to determine whether or not the Internet makes sense for your business is to apply a simple “yes” or “no” answer to 10 important marketing questions: 1. Do my clients require specific product information before they can buy my product/service? 2. Do I spend a majority of my time selling the benefits of my product only to be asked, “Can you send me more information?” 3. Is my long-distance phone bill more than $100 per month? 4. Have I lost business as a result of playing phone tag with a potential customer because I was unable to “sieze the moment?” 5. Would a new employee handling sales paperwork free me to increase my companys revenues? 6. Is there an international market for my product? 7. Does my product have a story to tell? 8. Am I spending more than 20 percent of every dollar I make on marketing-related expenses? 9. Would instant customer feedback benefit my business? 10. Would the ability to capture orders 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, help my business? If you answered “yes” to just one of these questions, you should at least explore the possibilities that Internet commerce can offer. If you answered “yes” to five or more, you should dedicate some serious time and resources to finding out how the Internet actually works (and how it can work for you). If you answered “yes” to eight or more of the questions, you need a fast-track education about the Internet before your competitors claim the medium for themselves. The smart small business owner will make plans to explore the Internet, find out what the Web can deliver and then formulate a strategy to exploit it. As Jeff Vick, Marketing Specialist at Creative Video explains, “The Internet will do to business in the 21st century what the telephone did to business in the 20th century.” The Web — How does it work? According to Vick, the Internet works well as a commercial sales tool for businesses that need to exchange information in order to specify a particular products size, color, model, price, etc. Multiple orders can be booked, billed and fulfilled through a simple response mechanism included on an Internet site. Much of this information can be communicated through the Web. While it is actually only one portion of the Internet, the Web serves as an extensive reference library that can provide any level of additional information about a particular subject, issue, item or product. As in a spiders web configuration, the Web provides an ever-increasing source of interlocking information about the subject in question. Simply point and click and you can dive deeper into additional layers of information. The Web also has certain features that make it ideal for marketing. It can display pictures and massive amounts of text about your product as well as send and receive order information while at the same time generating a receipt. If your product requires a lengthy explanation in order to communicate its benefits, the Web is the place to do it. Customers and prospects can view that information at their own pace — in many instances, via sophisticated video and audio commercials. Since were talking digital information here, there is very little difference between one word and one thousand words. And if you feel that youre spending too much time processing paperwork and not enough time selling, a well-designed Web page may be one of the potential keys to your businesses future success. How important is e-mail? An important byproduct of the Internet is e-mail, or electronic mail. Once you learn to use this valuable tool, youll wonder how you ever got along without it. Forget about what time it is, or whether its “worth a call” — with e-mail, it costs no more to send a message to Sydney that it does to Syracuse (the actual cost is about $1.00 an hour). And time zones become irrelevant as well. You and the recipient can view the messages at your convenience, thereby eliminating the dreaded game of telephone tag. So get serious! How does the smart business operator approach the formidable and intimidating task of investigating the Net? First, gather your thoughts as to what you would like your Web site to accomplish. Imagine that your customer can ask you anything he/she wants to know about your company and product — anything from product price to employee birthdays — and in no particular order. Analyze each possible scenario and list all the information relevant to it. Then, and only then, begin to organize the scenarios into a flow chart. Once you have the flow chart polished, try to find flaws in it. If your customer is browsing through the pricing section of your flow chart, will he/she be more interested in going to shipping next or reading your companys mission statement? After you feel that youve developed a solid grasp of the different portions of the business that youd like to present to your clientele, you are now ready to interview potential agencies who are skilled in creating Web pages. According to Vick, there are 3 questions you should ask a potential Web page creator: 1. Have you done this before? 2. Who have you done this for? 3. May I call them? While creating some Web pages may require the skills of a computer Ph.D., most will not, and there are competent companies in most major markets capable of accomplishing the task in a cost-effective fashion. Prices for creating a simple Web site can range from a low of $2,500 to high of $20,000. In fact, some of the Fortune 500 marketers have created sophisticated and complex Web pages that can literally run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in some cases, the millions. But for the average small business, the investment will probably be in the $5,000 to $10,000 range. And remember, you must keep your Web site content fresh, or your prospects will have no reason to come back. Seeing your own World Wide Web site up and running on the Internet can be a proud moment for any business owner. It also can mean the start of a whole new way of doing business. It has the potential to increase productivity by extending operating time to a full 24 hours a day. But this will only happen if your business really needs this technology and can use it effectively. Evaluate your situation honestly. If its right for you, acquire it. If its not, save the money. And if you want to see what its all about, contact a Web creator and ask to see a demonstration. One picture is really worth 1,000 words. Alf Nucifora is an Atlanta based marketing consultant. He may be contacted by e-mail zubicon
A review of the marketing literature in both the traditional (offline) and new era (online) environments was undertaken to compare and contrast marketings role in both types of organisation. Insights derived from this review formed the basis for a series of in-depth interviews with leading marketing professionals in Ireland. The paper draws conclusions regarding the overall effect of the Internet on marketing. In particular it notes that, while marketing has evolved into an all-encompassing role in the organisation, the marketer remains the focal actor. The paper looks to a future with two distinct kinds of marketer and highlights the importance of retaining the traditional commitments of marketing practice. The Internet is a significant global medium for communications, content and commerce. It is a powerful tool for building relationships with all of a companys communication targets. It is cheap, immediate and repeatable. With appropriate technology it can be personalised and is measurable. Building one-to-one relationships with customers online provides marketers with the ability to cut through the clutter that is characteristic of traditional marketing activities such as TV/radio and newspaper advertising, PR and outdoor, ambient media.

Hair where hair oughtnt be, according to the current dictates of American fashion, raises many an eyebrow. And so, for cosmetic reasons, millions of women, and a growing number of men, spend millions of dollars each year on products and services that promise smooth, silky skin free of “unsightly,” “excessive” body hair. The cost, safety, effectiveness, and ease of use of the various methods, as well as the area and amount of hair growth to be treated, are some factors to weigh in choosing a method and deciding whether to go to a professional. Often, different methods are better suited for different areas.FDAs Office of Cosmetics and Colors in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition regulates chemical depilatories, waxes, and shaving creams and gels. (The Consumer Product Safety Commission regulates razors.) These products, says John E. Bailey Jr., Ph.D., acting director of the office, are classified as cosmetics, defined as substances applied to the body to alter the appearance, promote attractiveness, cleanse, or beautify.

Pregnancy Morning Sickness
August 17th, 2008
Nausea and vomiting are common in early pregnancy, affecting 70 to 85 percent of pregnant women. Morning sickness typically begins within the first nine weeks of pregnancy, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum) occurs in approximately 0.5 to 2 percent of pregnancies. It is the most common indication for hospitalization during early pregnancy and second only to preterm labor as the most common reason for hospitalization during pregnancy. According to ACOG, some pregnant women have a higher risk of having hyperemesis gravidarum. They include women carrying multiple fetuses, daughters and sisters of women who had the condition, women carrying a female fetus, and women with a history of hyperemesis gravidarum in a previous pregnancy. Other risk factors include a history of motion sickness or migraines.
Angela Binns lost two stones in the first eight months of her first pregnancy because nearly everything she ate or drank came up again. During her second pregnancy, she was so sick that she was admitted to hospital on several occasions, suffering from dehydration. These days few doctors still put pregnancy sickness - even when it is severe and prolonged - down to psychological reasons. No one knows for sure what causes it, although it seems likely that the a centre in the brain is activated due to the change of hormone levels which occur during pregnancy. About a half of pregnant women suffer to some degree, their symptoms ranging from mild sickness in the morning to all-day nausea and frequent vomiting. Most - unlike Angela - find that the problem disappears soon after the 12th week. Until then, what what can you do? Feeling tired can make the sickness worse, so rest as much as you can. Give yourself time to get up slowly in the morning, if you feel sick then. Nibble some dry toast or a plain biscuit before you get out of bed. Wear comfortable clothes and avoid tight waistbands. Fresh air and a little gentle exercise, such as a short walk at lunchtime, may help, too. Try eating little but often, instead of sticking to three main meals a day. Do not stop eating altogether. Drink plenty of fluids. Carbonated water may reduce nausea. Steer clear of foods and smells that make you feel worse. Get someone else to take over the cooking, or go for bland, non-greasy choices such as baked potatoes or pasta, which are also easy to prepare. A snack before bedtime may also make you feel less sick in the morning. Homoeopaths often prescribe the plant extract ipecacuana, but other remedies may be more appropriate in individual cases. Herbalists often recommend peppermint or ginger. Some women have been helped by using Sea-Bands, which are available from most pharmacists. Based on the Chinese principle of acupressure, the bands exert pressure on the points inside each wrist which are said to control the harmonisation of the digestion and stomach. The poll of 500 parents by shoe chain Brantano found more than a third of children lied their shoes fit correctly and one in five chose their own footwear - often leading to rows.

Six surface officers were selected as the first student Naval Aviators not long after Naval Aviation officially began in 1911. They trained at North Island, California and coming from the fleet, their uniform shoes were black, low-quarter, square-toed, rough surface leather shoes. These functioned well and looked OK on coal burning ships where black soot often descended on personnel and their shoes. At North Island the students found themselves in a new environment characterized by brown dust from the soft surface airfield, which settled unattractively on their black shoes. After considerable discussion they decided that brown high-top shoes with brown leggings would work better for them. The brown dust wouldnt look so bad on brown shoes and might be easier to clean. On a Saturday morning they located a cobbler shop on 32nd Street in San Diego and commissioned the manager to produce the shoes at a price they could live with.

As I was completing my residency at Childrens National Medical Center, I, as many of my third-year colleagues, found myself wondering, where to go from here? Everything in our previous experience had been laid out in precise order, like check boxes waiting to be completed. Completing residency was the last check box on the list. We now had choices–fellowship, primary care, advocacy, etc. Enter Information Technology (IT). I can honestly say that, if I had been seriously considering a clinical job offer, I would probably be working in a clinic somewhere today. The lack of job, however, opened me to trying something new and different. When I heard about the informatics position, in which I would be able to help create a new computerized order entry system at Childrens, my hospital, I listened. and accepted the offer. Flash forward to Day One. My first day working in IT was definitely an experience to be remembered. I did not have to arrive at work until 8 am! I was able to sleep in! I actually had an office (cubicle) with my own phone and a laptop! As a resident, we had a lounge/classroom and had to vie for phone and computer usage wherever we went. In IT I had my own phone number and could give my new extension to whomever and could receive direct calls and messages.
There is no easy way around taking responsibility for mistakes EDITOR–The case commented on by Singer, Wu, Fazel, and McMillan is chilling in that the patient died in pain and suffering, and in the way it was handled by the senior attending physician–swept under the carpet information falsified, and given a high minded sort of dismissal with let this be a lesson.[1] That is almost obscene. The commentaries addressed most of the important points except discussing the fear of litigation and the fact that there are no easy answers when it comes to making mistakes. That needs to be said outright lest someone, especially someone in training who is less experienced, think that admitting a mistake stops at quality control or sharing responsibility, and that there is then some way around the difficult task of actually taking responsibility for the mistake. Within the culture of medicine and even more broadly in modern society there seems to be a drive for finding the easy way out. In this case there is none, and it needs to be made very clear that this is a defining moment in the life of a physician with regard to integrity and professionalism. That must be included in the discussion of how a supervising physician deals with a trainee who has made a mistake, which was relayed with such insight and sensitivity by Wu.
The Ranger medic (military occupational specialty 91B) provides advanced trauma management across the operational spectrum in which the 75th Ranger Regiment is employed. Ranger medic duties, both in combat environments and in training, medical training, professional progression, and medical assets in the Ranger battalion are detailed. Ranger medic training management tools and techniques are discussed and illustrated. The role of the combat lifesaver, force modernization, and interoperability issues facing the medical team are discussed. The Ranger medic is a capable special operations tactical medic. The Ranger medic (military occupational specialty [MOS] 91B) is the tactical medical provider for the 75th Ranger Regiment, the U.S. Armys elite light infantry. Through training, leadership, and experience, he becomes one of the most effective combat medics in the U.S. Army. He is capable of performing across the operational spectrum of 75th Ranger Regiment employment, providing advanced trauma management in the worst of conditions. This article is based on a presentation to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) Surgeons Conference in December 1998. Within Special Operations Forces (SOF), the Special Forces Medical Sergeant MOS 18D is the epitome of the SOF medic. The force structure, selection, training, retention, and employment issues are well developed for the 18D medic, because the nearly 700 18Ds form the bulk of SOF medics. The other SOF medics, which include the 91B Ranger medic, the 91B flight medics of the Task Force 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, U.S. Air Force flight medics, and Navy Sea, Air, Land independent duty corpsmen, do not have the same refined program. There are approximately 56 91Bs within the Ranger regiment, who represent a small fraction of SOF medics. This small number of Ranger medics provided an opportunity for the development of a Ranger medic training and career progression plan.

John Osbornes first play, Look Back in Anger, had its premiere in 1956 and he called it a formal, old-fashioned play. His second play, The Entertainer, was set during the Suez Crisis and opened in 1957. What was new about both was that the characters were real working-class people. No real parts had been written about working- class characters before - only “cheeky chappy” roles such as Doolittle in Pygmalion. When asked if I wanted to go to see The Entertainer I was uncertain. Why? I had worked backstage on a brilliant amateur production (by the Tavistock Rep) in 1969 and it had stayed in my mind, with few productions since to affect the fond memories. How wrong I was to hesitate. For me this production, under Sean Holmess direction, ticks all the boxes and putting it on 50 years after it was set is brilliant timing. So much of it resonates in 2007: a misguided war in the Middle East and young men dying needlessly; the obsession with skinny/size zero women; fading performers (or “personalities”) trying to reinvent themselves; feelings against politicians of either party; comments about the Poles and the Irish; and confusion over national identity.
POP Robbie Williams BY 9.05pm, the fans had waited long enough. Smelling blood, they bayed even louder: “Roh-bay, Roh-bay.” A public-service style announcement interrupted the din, requesting “silence” for the stars entrance. It only drove them wilder. True to form, Williams was worth the wait. With a burst of music more suited to an Old Spice advert, the tap-dancer from Stoke emerged triumphantly from a cage. Perhaps you had to be there.

Golfs governing bodies are to introduce a one-stroke penalty rule in an attempt to combat slow play. The words “slow play” are to appear in the rulebook for the first time from 1 January. Among the other changes coming into effect next year are ones that permit committees to make local rules to prohibit play from an environmentally sensitive area. A further amendment will deny a player relief when his stance, not the ball, is affected by casual water, ground under repair or certain damage to the course.

These are exciting times for investors-and for those helping them with their investment decisions. With record numbers of people investing in the stock market, financial analysts and personal financial advisors are busy. They are the money masters who provide investment analysis and guidance to businesses and individuals. Both financial analysts and advisors gather information, analyze investments, and make investment recommendations. However, their job duties differ because of the types of services they provide. This article describes the occupations of financial analyst and personal financial advisor, including what these workers do, what their employment outlook is, how much they earn, and how they train to enter these careers.
Most financial conglomerates in Norway are mainly engaged in hanking activities. Chart 3.1 summarises hanks assets and Huhilities. Loans to Norwegian households and enterprises account tor approximately two-thirds of hanks assets. Developments in credit risk are therefore of central importance for banks* earnings and for financial stability. This section primarily focuses on an analysis of hanks and changes in financial infrastructure. Developments in other financial institutions arc discussed in brief. Banks results have been solid so far this year. However, banks total pre-tax profits as a share of average total assets declined somewhat compared with the same period last year (see Chart 3.2). This is because operating income has fallen more than operating expenses. Bolh net interesi income and operating expenses have exhibited a falling trend over a longer period.

Garage storage is an $800 million retail business thats growing 10% a year. This is the fastest-growing area in home organization and storage, said Mike Franks, director of strategic planning at OSullivan Furniture. We all own a lot of stuff, and the garage has become the overflow valve for the rest of the house. Franks said OSullivans garage storage program licensed under the Coleman brand and carried at diverse retailers such as Lowes, Target, Pep Boys and Office Depot has sold phenomenally well since launched last fall. The whole system, including worktable, pegboard and cabinets, sells for less than $1,000. But the market is also strong for higher-end lines, such as Gladiator Garageworks by Whirlpool. Sauders answer to the Coleman line, for example, is a licensed Hot Rod Garage workshop organization system.

Garage Olimpo directed by Marco Bechis Garage Olimpo is set in Buenos Aires sometime during the military dictatorship. Then, between 1976 and 1982, 7,000 `opponents of the regime `disappeared. Many were drugged and dumped alive from military transport planes into the southern Atlantic. Director Bechis is one of the more fortunate victims of the regime — he escaped abroad. With co-writer Lara Fremder hes produced a claustrophobic and disturbing political drama. Maria is a literacy teacher and political activist. She lives with her mother and their lodger, Felix, who works at a garage. Felix is infatuated with her. When Maria is arrested shes taken to a prison and interrogation centre — the converted Olimpo garage — where torture is routine, degrading and brutal, designed to extract information quickly so that others can be arrested. There she encounters Felix, who is in fact a covert `counter-terrorist soldier. He is assigned to interrogate her. The film tracks their relationship: he exploits the situation to possess and control her; she uses his obsession as a means of survival. The portrayal of the torturer, not as monstrous or psychotic, but as spiritually impoverished, a man who is emotionally isolated and imprisoned, resists the dehumanization that is implicit in torture. Maria, meanwhile, parodies the traditional social role of women, but ultimately affirms endurance and enduring human values. Garage Olimpo is well-made, politically complex and hard-hitting. A fine film.

Blood samples were taken from 50 veiled and 22 unveiled Kuwaiti volunteers between the ages of 14 and 45 (mean 35.5 years). All of the women had been pregnant no more than three times, were from the middle or high socioeconomic classes, did not have black skin, and included milk and milk products in their diets. Plasma levels of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (vitamin D) were found to be significantly lower in the veiled than in the unveiled women (mean 14.4 vs. 30.2 pmol/L). Serum inorganic phosphorus was also significantly lower in the veiled women, but no significant differences were observed in serum calcium or alkaline phosphatase levels. Forty-three (86%) of the veiled women, but none of the unveiled women, had below-normal levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D. Sixteen (320A) of the veiled women and two (9.1%) of the unveiled women had high serum alkaline phosphatase levels. Two previously unsuspected cases of vitamin D deficiency osteomalacia were identified in the veiled group. These two women, like the four previously identified cases, responded well to the administration of vitamin D, thus confirming that vitamin D deficiency was the cause of their osteomalacia.
This study, performed in Bonn, Germany, evaluated the effect of four weeks of supplementation with folic acid (400 [micro] g/day), vitamin [B.sub.6], (2 mg/day), or both on homocysteine levels in 106 healthy young women. As compared to women receiving placebo, those receiving folic acid, with or without vitamin [B.sub.6], showed a significant reduction in plasma homocysteine levels (17% in the group receiving both vitamins, 11.5% in the group receiving folic acid alone, with no significant difference between these two groups). Vitamin [B.sub.6], administered alone, had no significant effect on homocysteine levels. The results of this study indicate that supplementation with physiologic doses of folic acid can reduce homocysteine levels within the normal range. Since even moderate elevations in homocysteine concentrations are a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, the reduction in homocysteine produced by supplementation might have long-term health benefits. Additional studies are needed to determine whether similar effects on homocysteine can be produced with dietary folate rather than folic acid supplements. If you are seeking relief for a medical condition, you probably want to find a health care professional-such as a physician, nurse, psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker-who is trained and experienced not only in hypnosis but also with your particular symptom or ailment. Always seek people who have had the maximum training possible in the area in which you are seeking help. Remember, it is your mind they will be working with. Finding a qualified hypnotherapist isnt that hard. Many health care professionals licensed in other fields practice hypnosis, so chances are good that your health care professional can give you a referral. Two major organizations that are recognized as having high professional standards are The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and The Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH). Both can provide the names of qualified practitioners in your area:
Self Hypnosis

THE number of people having antiageing plastic surgery increased dramatically in 2005. Figures to be published tomorrow by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) show that 2279 patients had face or neck lifts in 2005, up 42.1-per cent on 2004. There was a 50.2-per cent increase in the number having eyelid surgery - some 3415 patients - and a 34.8-per cent increase in the number of people having brow lifts, a total of 580 patients. Eyelid surgery is the second most popular procedure after breast augmentation.
Middle-aged workers are turning to face-lifts to compete with younger colleagues in what experts say is an increasingly ageist workplace. Dr Waterhouse believes that facial ageing, which generally occurs in the 40s or 50s, can often coincide with changes of direction in life and in peoples careers. Some of his patients think that looking older means less respect in a competitive work environment. He said: “We are all going to be working longer. As we get older we all have to make sure we are presentable. Where once we would have had a haircut, we now consider surgery as a realistic option.” The Harley Medical Group reports that while face-lifts are popular with both sexes, women are also opting for brow and breast lifts and Botox treatments, while men tend to change a feature they have always been unhappy with, such as the nose. People do not want to be considered “over the hill” and ready for retirement by their colleagues before they are ready to go.

Would you pay a premium to stay in a resort that John Travolta once stayed in? Would you pay a bigger premium to stay in the same resort where the King of Spain is staying at the moment? If so, the holiday season must be a worrying time for you. Because your choice of destination is going to reveal the truth - about you, your finances, and your social profile (or lack of it). You might insist on Antibes or Portofino on the grounds of extreme expense if nothing else (try buying a holiday home in one of them), but beaches with a guarantee of absolutely no plebs at all, ever? Very hard to find. Punta Ala on the Tuscan coast, which contains a beach strip you cannot access unless you are staying in one of the resorts five-star hotels - and where all the sun-loungers are pre- assigned - is a possibility, as is Cap Ferat on the Cote dAzur. For a safer bet, but still in the Med, this year I am advising people to book something grand in a place nobody else has heard of. Your friends cannot be certain that these areas contain no Porsches. Spain? Find a parador in the Jaen region, with its olive-clad rolling hills and rambling farmsteads. Italy? A palazzo in the Salentine Peninsula with its cliffs and rugged coves. Just dont give the game away by talking about the “new Tuscany” (implying that you would be in Tuscany if only you could afford it).
Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is on a roll with “Jingle Bell Jackson,” a citywide celebration of festive events geared to market the city as a holiday destination. Only in its second year, the number of special hotel. packages has jumped from four to seven, said Jackson CVB spokesperson Mara M. Hartmann. Only one hotel - Clarion Hotel and Suites - is offering a flat rate for the month of December instead of a package. “At $69, its a great rate,” said Hartmann. “It makes it really easy for you to put your family and friends up in a hotel if you dont have room in your house or if they want to stay somewhere else.”
NEW YORK has been named the most popular seasonal holiday destination for Britons this Christmas, with bookings equal to last years record despite the events of 11 September. The Big Apple is the most popular long-haul destination from Heathrow and the fourth overall, especially since prices have been slashed by airlines, hotels and restaurants. The citys state office director, Sarah Handy, said: “The UK visitor is very resilient and Britons are proving themselves to be New Yorks number one supporters.” Thomas Cooks managing director, Andrew Windsor, said: “It seems consumer confidence in foreign holidays has returned.” Breaks in the Canary Islands, the most favoured package destination, are almost sold out, with Spain and Tenerife also popular.

Some epidemiologic studies have associated higher intakes of the antioxidant nutrients, especially vitamin E, with reduced risks of coronary heart disease. In some studies, this association has been observed for dietary vitamin E, but in other instances, the relationship was seen only in persons taking high doses of vitamin E as supplements. Protective effects of the other antioxidant nutrients - vitamin C and carotenoids - have also been observed in some epidemiological studies, but not in others. In the study population as a whole, there appeared to be a trend toward reduced coronary risk with higher vitamin E intake, but it was not statistically significant. Among women who did not take vitamin supplements, dietary vitamin E intake did show a significant inverse association with coronary heart disease risk. Women in the highest quintile of vitamin E intake had less than half the risk of death from coronary heart disease of women in the lowest quintile. Foods associated with reduced risk included margarine, nuts and seeds, and mayonnaise and creamy salad dressings. Intakes of vitamin A, vitamin C, and supplementary vitamin E did not appear to be associated with the risk of death from coronary disease. These findings suggest that vitamin E intake may be protective against coronary heart disease in postmenopausal women and that such women can lower their risk without using vitamin supplements. However, the authors could not rule out the possibility that vitamin E consumed in food might be a marker for other dietary factors associated with coronary risk. The lack of effect of vitamin E in supplements should be interpreted with caution because information on the duration of supplement use was not available for this cohort and because relatively few women used high-dose supplements of vitamin E.
Jutta Dierkes, Manfred Kroesen, and Klaus Pietrzik, Folic Acid and Vitamin [B.sub.6] Supplementation and Plasma Homocysteine Concentrations in Healthy Young Women, International J Vitamin Nutrition Research 68(2):98-103 (1998) [Correspondence: Professor Klaus Pietrzik, Institute of Nutritional Science, Department of Pathophysiology of Human Nutrition, University of Bonn, Endenicher Allee 11-13, 53115 Bonn, Germany]
Low blood levels of antioxidant nutrients such as vitamin E and the carotenoids have been observed in some older people. It has been suggested that the lack of these protective factors may increase the risk of chronic diseases in this age group. It is uncertain, however, whether low levels of circulating antioxidant nutrients are an inevitable accompaniment to aging. Plasma levels of vitamin E and most carotenoids in the elderly nuns were similar to those reported in middle-aged populations; lycopene levels, however, were lower. Plasma levels of most antioxidants did not decrease with age in the nuns; lycopene was an exception. These data suggest that, with the exception of lycopene, plasma levels of antioxidant nutrients do not inevitably decrease with aging. The relatively high antioxidant status seen in this population may reflect the fact that the sisters had regular access to a nutritious diet, with assistance in eating provided for those who needed it, and the fact that they did not smoke and seldom drank alcohol. It is possible that the low antioxidant levels reported in some other elderly population groups may reflect poor diets and/or the presence of factors which deplete antioxidants, such as cigarette smoking.
Estate and Tax Planning Winnipeg
August 11th, 2008
Under the terms of the plan, which has been adopted in compliance with
Securities and Exchange Commission Rule 10b5-1, the Moore Estate, directly
and through companies formerly controlled by Mr. Moore, plans to sell up to
200,000 shares of the Corporations common stock over three (3) months,
beginning in September 2006. In total, these shares represent
approximately 3.9% percent of the Moore Estates holdings. The
Corporation has been advised that all sales of the Corporations common
stock by the Moore Estate will comply with applicable U.S. securities laws,
including Rule 144 thereunder if applicable.
The Moore Estates total equity ownership in the Corporation today is
5,086,018 shares which represents 25.2% of the Corporations outstanding
common stock.
Rule 10b5-1 permits the adoption of written, prearranged trading plans by
insiders at times when they do not have material, non-public information.
Using these plans, insiders and affiliates can gradually diversify their
investment portfolios and spread stock trades over an extended period of
time to reduce potential market impact. Once a plan is established, the
insider retains no discretion over sales under the plan, and the
pre-planned trades can be executed through a broker without regard to any
subsequent material non-public information that the insider may acquire.
If clients were asked what they want from the estate planning process, their answers would no doubt include, “achieving control over financial and family issues,” “certainty of future income” and “avoidance of transfer taxes,” among other objectives. Why, then, is the estate plan usually initiated by a clients trust and estate attorney, tax accountant or trust officer? Why do clients seldom ask to go through the estate planning process? Sophisticated estate planning can quickly look like a maze of legalities. Clients are told to wade through reams of documents that they must approve and make official. We ask them to analyze incomprehensible spreadsheets for alternative estate tax savings concepts. At the end of this process, I doubt that clients can explain to anyone the specifics of what they have just finished. For the client, the process probably feels out of control. Based on our experience working with clients, here are four rules that should empower them with the sense of greater control:
Family-owned companies not only need to plan for estate succession, they also should review that plan once a year since the tax code is constantly changing. “Proper estate planning is just as important as the day-to-day operations of your business,” said Terrance Resnick, partner of Resnick Associates. “Without planning, you can lose at death all the hard work you put into your company,” Resnick said, adding, “The worst plan is no plan. The second-worst plan is establishing a good plan but never reviewing it.”

Over the years the concept of medical necessity has evolved to encompass a multitude of medical management strategies. Essentially, in terms of the contract language, medical necessity has become a workhorse concept to determine coverage eligibility. In the process, the interpretation of the term has taken on various guises and a variety of processes have been used to define medical necessity. The following discussion highlights the variable uses of the concept of medical necessity. 1. Determining the most appropriate intensity of service and place of service
Editors note: This article is adapted from Menke and Bobbins Integrative Chiropractic, scheduled for release in 2007 by Elsevier Health Sciences. “The medicalization of early diagnosis not only hampers and discourages preventative health care, but it also trains the patient-to-be to function in the meantime as an acolyte to his doctor. He learns to depend on the physician in sickness and in health. He turns into a lifelong patient.” “Medicalizing” is forcing conditions into familiar diagnostic categories for medical management.1 Every complaint has an antidote, whether it needs one or not. ; Treating natural consequences of living as diseases that must be vanquished, leads to too much treatment and too much dependence on the authoritative “professional.” We tend to grant most, if not all of our decision-making authority to an expert in highly complex technologies. In the case of medicine, this often complicates the commonplace condition and prolongs selflimiting ones. Today, diseases and drugs are way oversold.

Prosperity in the U.S. construction industry was again on the house, as the residential segment continues to exhibit most of the recent growth in the domestic building industry. The construction industry appears to be hovering at a level close to last years pace, says Robert A. Murray, vice president of economic affairs for McGraw-Hill Construction. Housing remains very healthy, and the upturn for non-residential building in February was a welcome development after a sluggish January. Murray says that higher steel prices could be putting a crimp in the nonresidential segments. Over the course of 2004, its expected that nonresidential building will see a modest strengthening trend. Admittedly, though, this years sharp increase in steel prices has made the nonresidential upturn less certain, given the impact that higher costs and materials shortages may have on individual construction projects. At this juncture, it appears that the nonresidential upturn will be dampened but not derailed, assuming steel prices settle back by midyear, but the situation clearly bears watching.

If anyone should be an inspiration to the legions of non-Latin Europeans dutifully signing on for GCSE salsa classes, Larry Harlow should. Jewish, and the son of a band leader and an opera singer, Harlow veered abruptly towards Latin street music, rather than jazz or the classics at the Music Art High School in New York in the 1950s. “We were right beside Spanish Harlem - I used to listen to the music in the Latino grocers shops.” In the 1960s and 1970s his novel rearrangements of trombone, trumpet, violin and flute sections moved him to the centre of New Yorks Latin scene, working with artists like Johnny Pacheco, Ray Barreto and Willie Colon, the generation whose tough new hybrid sound first came to be called salsa. Harlow was the first artist to be signed by the seminal Fania label, co-wrote the Latin rock opera Hommy (Mark 2 version on the way), played for the famous Mohammed Ali-George Foreman fight in Zaire (a fiasco: everyone came for the fight, not the concert). The last decade has been spent with his own band touring the world. Last year conga ace Ray Barreto had the idea, inspired by the “fantasy band”, an ad hoc group of jamming jazz stars, of reconvening Harlow, himself, singer Adalberto Santiago and cuatro player Yomo Toro as the Latin Legends Band. Thus Harlow makes his first ever London appearance on Saturday (Barreto is a regular performer and Santiago was here last year). No longer a breath- bating prospect, perhaps, but a most intriguing one.
The MusicDar Williams discussed during her set the reasons why womyn should switch to organic, unbleached cotton tampons and other products such as sea sponges during our periods. The traces of dioxins found in grocery store tampons are hazardous carcinogens; at the same time, the male-owned “feminine hygiene product” industry is making an astounding profit off our bodies. Williams considered that the organic products are more expensive than mainstream ones, so she offered a few hilarious possibilities for overcoming the increased expense. One suggestion was to give female loved ones packages of woman-safe tampons for birthday and seasonal gifts. For her personal contribution, she stopped at every health food store and co-op on her way to the festival and cleared their shelves of boxes of unbleached tampons. At this point her traveling companions walked down the catwalk with an enormous basket full of tampons and began wildly flinging them into the audience. Gleeful womyn rushed the stage to scoop up flying tampons!Tribe 8 returned for the night stage this year. The audience was noticeably smaller than other nights because many women didnt attend the performance. I hadnt been to one of their shows before so I looked forward to seeing what all the fuss was about from previous years. Yes, Lynn Breedlove hacked off a dildo on stage in Hothead Paisan fashion. I had a visceral jolt of fascination and revulsion watching her saw at the big dildo with her huge, bright silver knife — an effect the whole show seems intended to engender. I enjoyed the show — it was energetic, joyful and participative even while it fiercely expressed their anger about being women in a patriarchal world. Many women can relate to their first song, “The Mens Room is Down the Hall.” In this song Breedlove challenges those who judge her for not conforming to patriarchal norms of how a woman should dress and act.
The Good, the Bad and the Queen, Damon Albarns latest act of musical reinvention, enters the chart at No 2 and is evidence of the Gorillaz mans genuinely questing musical spirit; may The View prove to have a similarly far-sighted outlook.

cd duplication
August 7th, 2008
Contrary to some opinions, standalone CD duplication systems are not intended to be piracy factories. As the lowest common denominator writable format readable in any CD or DVD drive, CD-R has attained the privileged position previous held only by the floppy diskette and paper. Legitimate uses for making multiple copies of CDs include distributing everything from computer software to technical documents to church music to syndicated radio shows to the infamous Starr Report. At the heart of the standalone CD-R duplication system is the controller, which acts as the brains of the operation and point of interaction with the user. A number of proprietary controllers are commonly used in the various systems as well as some standardized models available to the industry from several manufacturers including JukeBox Information Systems (JIS), R-Quest, and Extreme Technologies. Capabilities vary widely between controllers so it is important for the prospective user to compare and determine the functions needed as opposed to superfluous features or downright gimmicks.
